Hundertwasser in Bavaria - Visiting Abensberg

Last weekend my aunt and I took a little trip into the hop growing country. We wanted to visit the Hundertwasser Tower in Abensberg .

It was a beautiful afternoon as we drove through the fields with its distinctive bare hop poles.

The local brewery Kuchlbauer built the tower, based on plans by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, right in the center of the small Bavarian town. It was finished in 2010 and is an inspirational piece of architecture, tourist magnet and source of income for the town. A stroke of genius is the combination of brewery tour, degustation and art. It offers something of interest for the whole family.

As neither my aunt nor I were interested in the brewery or tasting the beers we selected to visit the art museum only but collected our bottles of beer afterwards, which are included in the ticket price.

As well as the tower a Kunsthaus was built in typical Hundertwasser style with wonky floors and colorful tiles, displaying his art and teaching about the artists philosophy.

Afterwards we found a charming small cafe for refreshments before we headed home.

perfect addition to the town
